We know that the best preschool experiences nurture a child’s curiosity. Experiences based in the arts are a natural way to help children discover and explore which in turn provides exciting opportunities to learn.
Good programs for preschoolers help develop their motor skills. An arts based preschool experience naturally provides many opportunities for children to learn foundations of dance through creative movement. Age appropriate art activities are one of the best ways to help children develop fine motor skills, such as threading beads or cutting with scissors.
Imagination fuels learning. Preschool-age children learn through make-believe play. Our drama program along with a well stocked closet of costumes and props support creating active imaginations. Jackson School of the Arts has always been an inspiring place to help young children grow and thrive. Now we are offering even more in-depth opportunities. You can learn more about Kids Create during a Kids Create open house on August 18, 3:00-6:30 PM or August 31, 5:30-7:00. Other times, call for a personal tour, 784-2389.
When inspired, children want to continue to grow and be challenged even when they are no longer little. With that in mind, we’ve expanded opportunities in the dance program. Tony Frazier recently joined Jackson School of the Arts dance staff. Ms. Frazier earned a BFA in Dance from UM and has been a guest choreographer and teacher throughout the United States. She comes to Jackson School of the Arts after having built a dance company for ages 7-18, called the Haus of Dance, located out of the former Susan Vaughn Studio of Dance. Now in addition to offering over 60 weekly dance classes for all ages, Jackson School of the Arts is home to this dance company and offers more classes and performance opportunities for intermediate to advanced level students.
As you plan for fall activities for you own children, little and big, remember that involvement the arts is a great way to encourage creativity and a passion for life long learning.
