Cova’s movement vocabulary punctuates the highly physical with a quiet gestural sense evoking worlds of turmoil, confusion, hope, and happiness in a single theatrical experience. Cova is interested in embodied text, oral histories, subjugated knowledge and personal reflections as they dialogue through evocative movement languages. Cova has been an adjunct faculty member/guest artist at numerous institutions, including University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Wayne State University and Oakland University. Most recently, she has been a visiting artist at Gibney Dance Center (NYC) and Dance In the Annex (Grand Rapids). For the past 4 years, Cova has been a Facilitator at The Field (NYC), working with professional artists of diverse mediums. Amy Hutchison is a professional modern dancer, choreographer, and certified Yoga and Gyrotonic® instructor based in Southeast Michigan. She is currently in her fourth season with DDCdances. She received her early classical ballet training with the Saginaw Valley Dancers under the direction of Doris Marsh. Amy was a company member of the Farrell Ballet Theatre for four years while pursuing her BA Psychology degree from Kalamazoo College. A member and guest choreographer for People Dancing since 2010, she has also been a guest performer with LaMarre and dancers. She has attended summer programs at Paul Taylor Dance Company, Kista Tucker Dance Company, Sidra Bell Dance New York, Toronto Dance Theater, and Peggy Baker Dance Projects. Amy is passionate about sharing body awareness and knowledge to all, and helping dancers explore and expand their potential. Aimie Smith (see instructor bio page) Suzanne Kirsch: she began dance classes at the age of 5 in Clinton, IA. Later commuting to a school in Morrison, IL, she studied with teachers from the Nancy Opera Ballet in France and the Royal Ballet in England before attending Butler University’s prestigious dance program in Indianapolis. Seeking more varied dance training at the collegiate level, she transferred to the University of Iowa where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in dance on an academic and dance scholarship. She moved to Michigan and worked in management for Saks Fifth Avenue and in mortgage banking for Flagstar Bank while teaching dance part-time. Since 2001, she has been able to devote her time exclusively to teaching dance. She is currently completing certification in American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum in New York City. Suzanne’s goal is to bring out the best in her students. She wants them to love and appreciate dance and the performing arts so that even if they do not choose to pursue them as career goals, they will one day be supporters of the arts.
