Our Background

For two decades, Jackson School of the Arts has been known for their art and dance classes that build a strong foundation for our community’s children. We are excited to now expand our offerings to include an all-day preschool child care that focuses on building your child’s creativity through the day.

Our Childcare Philosophy

At Jackson School of the Arts, great care is taken to nourish the spirit of each child. All efforts are made to encourage the natural desire to learn, discover and explore creativity. The program is based on self-directed, noncompetitive activities that foster high self-esteem. Our primary goal is to help children become life-long learners and reach their full potential in all areas of life.

The Basics:

We offer a full Preschool environment that focuses on education and life skills, but goes above and beyond to make sure creativity and the Arts are woven through the whole day’s experience.

Open Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Program to run all year long
Ongoing registration until full at 24 students.

Jackson School of the Arts is located at 135 W. Cortland St. in Downtown, Jackson, Michigan. We are in a newly-renovated building with many modern amenities and security features. To learn more about our location, get directions and learn about parking, please visit out Location page.

Preschool Education & Skill Building

We prioritize preparing your child for their future educational journey, but also help them develop important life and creativity skills that will help them thrive in the years to come. As opposed to many other pre-school environments, we don’t use simple photocopied projects, but have a truly customized projects that are fun and creative.

Number identification, counting, sequencing and beginning math skills
Letter identification, letter sounds, and emerging literacy and writing skills
We teach children about all of the colors of the spectrum, and primary and secondary color mixing.
We work on learning the seasons, holidays, days of the week, and months of the year.
Activities to develop self care and everyday living skills are provided in our classroom. These include scooping, pouring, cleaning, putting things away, zipping, tying, buttoning, hand washing and general self care skills.

We ensure to provide activities that develop social, emotional, cognitive, physical and creative experiences that encourage the natural desire to explore, discover, create and learn!

We also have a team that has a variety of artistic skill sets to surround your children in a diverse set of creative influences.

Our Typical Day

We have plenty of activities keep your child’s day balanced, engaging and fulfilling. However, we have just enough structure to help prepare them for their elementary school years.

7:30-8:00 Greeting children and families.
9:00 Morning Greeting: Large group circle time
9:15 Bathroom Break and wash hands for snack
10:00 Snack time
10:15-11:00 Outdoor Play (weather permitting)
11:15-11:45 Studio Time: These sessions rotate between Art, Dance, Theater, Gymnastics and Yoga
12:00-12:45 Lunch
1:00-3:00 Nap
3:00 Bathroom Break and wash hands for snack
3:15 Snack time
3:30-4:00 Outdoor Play (weather permitting)
4:00-4:30 Music: Large group songs, dancing, finger-plays, instruments
5:30 Closing Time

Our new, dedicated Childcare / Preschool room is coming along quite nicely! While our Childcare Academy will also be utilizing many other parts of our Downtown facility such as our Art, Dance, Theater, and Gymnastics areas, their dedicated Preschool room will be their central hub.
