Clogging is a truly American dance form that began in the Appalachian Mountains and now enjoys widespread popularity throughout the United States and around the world. At its core, Clogging is a means of personal expression and we want to bring its high energy and fun to an extended audience.
Clogging introduces you to a wide variety of music genres instead of focusing on 1 or 2. Its rhythms focus on the heartbeat of the music rather than the lyrics. Clogging allows you to really feel the music while you’re dancing along.
A Clogging Fundance hosted at our new Downtown facilities in December 2021. This energy-packed event had dancers come from different parts of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. All ages were able to dance, laugh, and bond as a clogging family. We had participants with no clogging experience who were able to join, learn and have fun.
Our Clogging Dance instructor, Chris and his son put on a great demonstration at the Bright Walls festival in 2019.
One of the youth Clogging performances from our 2022 recital — this one with a strong 90s vibe!
Chris Phelps was born and raised in Jackson, Michigan. He took his first clogging class while in 3rd grade and has been hooked ever since. Chris grew up performing with a local clogging group at different events in and around Jackson county. He’s traveled all around the States and Canada teaching and participating in workshops. Currently, Chris leads a group of amazing dancers that love to show perform and dance together.
