Summer Dress Code Policy
Dress code is encouraged but not required for summer sessions, with the exception of required dance shoes. All dance genres that typically require shoes must have appropriate footwear worn during summer classes.
Year-round dance classes require full dress code compliance at all times.
This class is designed for first-time dancers to experience class with their caregiver. Your little dancer will have fun dancing to their favorite songs while working on basic dance terminology and coordination. This class will help create fond memories full of laughter and smiles. (Because of space limitations this class is limited to one student to one caregiver ratio).

This class provides a basic ballet foundation for ages 3-4. Students learn to move to simple rhythms, improve coordination and balance, and learn very basic ballet steps and terminology. Other activities include learning through games, skipping, hopping, walking on the balance beam with fun and familiar songs. Children must be able to take this class without a parent and be able to follow simple directions.
To give more variety to the pre-ballet program, all the classes from age 3 and up will also include some tap dance elements as well. This will help them broaden their skills and keep their interest strong.

Princess Ballet
Once upon a time, princesses from around the world gathered for a royal ballet ball. In this playful ballet class, dancers will explore the magic of their favorite princess stories as they curtsy, twirl, and dance through the wonderful world of ballet. Along the way, students will be introduced to basic ballet positions, coordination, musicality, and classroom structure, all taught in a fun and age-appropriate way that encourages confidence and creativity.

Lyrical is a beautiful blend of Ballet, Modern and Jazz Dance. Students learn the techniques of ballet, rhythm of jazz and the emotions of modern dance. Lyrical creates a story or expresses the mood or theme of the music and its lyrics. This class is great for experienced or beginner dancer.

Acro
Acro is a dynamic and exciting dance style that combines classical dance technique with acrobatic elements. Often seen in professional performances and dance competitions, Acro emphasizes strength, flexibility, balance, and fluid transitions between movements.

A beginning-level clogging class…high energy and lots of fun! Clog dancing is similar to tap. Dancers will learn Appalachian clogging steps including basics, doubles, triples, cowboy, joey and MORE!
No experience is necessary for this class. Along with FUN, dancers will get the benefits of improved flexibility, coordination, endurance, strength and building self-confidence.
*Class Requires Clogging Shoes, must order online.

These classes are high energy. Students learn “street moves” danced to the rhythms of today’s favorite R&B, hip hop and pop music. All music is age-appropriate and free of any suggestive language.

Irish dance, dating back to the Druids, is a rhythmic and lighthearted dance. While the rigid upper body mimics the posture of a soldier, the legs and feet pound out incredible footwork.

Whether you’ve always dreamed of learning ballroom dance or just want to polish your style and add new moves to your repertoire, our instructors at The Jackson School of the Arts will help you meet your goals while feeling comfortable and confident. We strive to provide a vibrant, but relaxed atmosphere to help you become the dancer you’ve always dreamed of becoming (or at least a better dancer!)
Don’t worry if you’ve never danced before or think you have two left feet. We have the experience to get you past feeling awkward and into feeling great about dancing!
This 4-week series will focus on Swing. East Coast Swing, differing from its West Coast counterpart, is a lively and jovial dance style developed through the end of the 1940’s and into the 1950’s. Unique in its American origin, it is a favorite in dance clubs and ballrooms across the world. It can be danced to many different kinds of music, and for more advanced dancers often includes acrobatic aerial tricks.
Classes meet once a week on June 9, 16, 23 & 30 and one registration covers the full session. Comfortable shoes recommended.

Step into the fun and energy of hip-hop in this beginner-friendly class designed specifically for adults! Over the course of three weeks, you will learn basic hip hop steps, build confidence, and enjoy moving to upbeat music in a supportive environment.
This class is perfect, whether you are brand new to dance or looking for a creative way to stay active. Each session includes easy-to-follow instruction from our dance faculty, fun combinations you can master in just a few weeks, and a stress-free atmosphere where the focus is on enjoyment and movement.
Ages: 10+
Recommended for: Dancers currently enrolled in Ballet I or Ballet II
Summer Ballet Intensive – Level A

Level A is designed for dancers continuing their foundational ballet training and building strength for pre-pointe work. This four-day intensive is led by Wendi DuBois, former director and instructor with Chelsea Ballet, and supported by Chloe Gonzales, a University of Michigan dance graduate and current JSA faculty member. Dancers receive structured daily training in a supportive and technique-focused environment.
Ages: 13+
Recommended for: Dancers enrolled in Ballet III or Ballet I

Level B is intended for intermediate dancers ready to deepen their ballet technique through extended daily instruction. Led by Wendi DuBois, former director and instructor with Chelsea Ballet, and featuring Chloe Gonzales, University of Michigan dance graduate and JSA faculty member, this intensive provides concentrated training designed to strengthen technique, artistry, and confidence.

Content Choreo Lab is a fast-paced, advanced-level class designed for experienced dancers who are confident picking up choreography quickly and performing with precision and presence. This class focuses on learning short, high-impact choreography and refining performance quality specifically for on-camera execution.
Dancers will work on musicality, clarity of movement, spacing, and expressive performance while developing an understanding of how choreography translates to digital platforms. Class time may include filming select combinations, allowing dancers to practice performing for the camera in a structured, supportive studio environment.
This class is intended for advanced dancers only. Prior dance experience and strong choreography retention skills are required.
Filming Notice:
Content Choreo Lab includes filming for Jackson School of the Arts’ social media and promotional platforms. Participation requires parent or guardian permission to be filmed. Dancers without completed media consent will not be filmed and may not participate in this class.

Join University of Michigan Emeritus Faculty member Robin Wilson for a one-week Afro-Caribbean Summer Intensive exploring the movement traditions, rhythms, and cultural foundations of Afro-Caribbean dance. Open to dancers and movers of varying experience levels, the intensive offers an inclusive, community-centered environment culminating in a performance at the Jackson Annual Juneteenth Celebration.

This high-energy dance camp is inspired by the bold style, powerful movement, and dramatic performance quality of modern K-pop. Dancers will learn original choreography set to popular K-pop music while exploring themes of confidence, strength, unity, and self-expression. Throughout the week, students will build musicality, stage presence, and teamwork through dynamic movement and creative storytelling. In addition to dance training, campers will participate in themed art projects, structured games, and enjoy a snack each day, creating a fun and well-balanced camp experience.
The camp concludes with a short, informal performance during the final 15 minutes of camp on Thursday, allowing dancers to share what they’ve learned with family and friends.
