Classes for Every Age and Experience Level! Whether your child is taking their very first dance class or you’re an experienced performer looking to refine your technique, Jackson School of the Arts offers a welcoming place to grow. Our dance program serves students from 18 months through adulthood, with classes designed for beginners, recreational dancers, pre-professional students, and performers alike.
Our bright, welcoming studios and caring instructors create an environment where students can build technique, confidence, creativity, and a lasting connection to the arts. Class capacities are generally limited to approximately 16 students based on the size of our studios, allowing instructors to know their students and support their individual growth.
What Makes JSA Dance Different? Accessibility and affordability are central to the JSA mission. Tuition assistance is available based on household income, helping more families participate in quality arts education.
For classes that perform, JSA provides costumes for the Holiday Showcase and Spring Recital. Families do not purchase or keep a new costume each year. Costumes are provided for the performance and returned afterward, reducing a large additional expense often associated with dance.
Performance opportunities include the Holiday Showcase, Spring Recital, competition teams, and select outreach performances. Performance participation varies by class, and class descriptions clearly identify whether a class includes performances so families can choose the experience that is right for them.

Ballet is the cornerstone of exceptional dance training. Regardless of style, dancers who are serious about developing strong technique, artistry, musicality, strength, and control benefit from consistent ballet instruction. Students develop balance, coordination, posture, and confidence through age-appropriate instruction and a progressive curriculum. Beginning students are encouraged to pair ballet with tap to build a strong technical foundation.

Pointe Program (Instructor Approval Required)

Tap and percussive dance are among the best ways for students to develop rhythm, musicality, timing, coordination, and confidence. Through percussive footwork, dancers learn to hear and create rhythm while strengthening listening skills, precision, and performance quality. Whether students are just beginning or advancing into more challenging choreography, tap and percussive dance offer an energetic, supportive community where dancers have fun while building skills that benefit every style of dance.

Lyrical/Jazz combines the expressive storytelling of lyrical dance with the energy and technique of jazz. Dancers develop musicality, flexibility, artistry, and performance quality while learning choreography that blends emotional expression with dynamic movement. Ballet training is strongly encouraged, as it provides the technical foundation that supports success in lyrical and jazz.
Available Classes

Hip hop is an energetic, high-impact dance style that encourages confidence, creativity, rhythm, and self-expression. Dancers develop musicality, coordination, strength, and performance skills while learning age-appropriate hip hop technique and choreography in a fun, encouraging environment. Students interested in learning breaking fundamentals can also explore our breakdancing classes, which emphasize footwork, freezes, balance, and athletic movement.
Available Classes

Contemporary dance blends the technical foundation of ballet with creative movement, musicality, and emotional expression. Dancers explore fluid movement, floor work, and storytelling while developing strength, artistry, and versatility. Contemporary encourages students to connect technique with personal expression in a supportive, creative environment.
Available Classes

Improv and Composition encourage dancers to think beyond choreography by developing creativity, confidence, and artistic expression. In Improv, students learn to adapt when performances don’t go exactly as planned, recover confidently from mistakes, support fellow dancers on stage, and embrace the fact that every performance is unique. In Dance Composition, students explore the art of choreography by creating original movement, developing themes, arranging music, and crafting dances that communicate ideas and tell stories. These classes help dancers become more confident, creative, and versatile artists.
Available Classes

Acro combines dance technique with athletic skills to develop strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and body control. Students safely progress through age-appropriate tumbling, limbering, balances, flexibility training, and acrobatic skills while emphasizing proper technique and controlled execution. Acro complements many dance styles and is an excellent choice for students looking to build both confidence and athleticism.
Available Classes

Strong performers are built through intentional training. Our Conditioning for Performing Artists program is designed to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, mobility, and injury prevention for dancers, gymnasts, aerialists, actors, and other performers. These classes complement regular technique training and help students perform with greater confidence, control, and longevity.
Available Classes

For dancers seeking additional performance opportunities, Jackson School of the Arts offers a competitive dance program for students who are ready to further their technical training, artistry, teamwork, and stage experience.
